Summer Term 2015 Roundup

This was a busy term that began with many children preparing for formal tests and ending with a wide range of exciting outdoor experiences and, of course, our summer production. National tests are a fact of life for all children now and I would like to thank the teachers for striking the right balance between preparing children adequately and reducing the inevitable anxieties. The children also approached the tests with maturity and determination-well done!

Early on in the term Class 2 had the opportunity to visit Poplar Hall Farm, home and business of the Brice family. The children had a fantastic time and we would like to thank Alison and Simon for making everyone so welcome and for a rich educational experience.
We continued our long-standing partnership with our French friends at Ecole primaire Jules Ferry. This year we took part in joint sports and adventurous activity day organised by the staff and students of Hartismere High School. We returned to school we were treated to a tasty picnic prepared by the Friends of Occold. We ended the day with games on the field.
All of Key Stage 2 took part in a science-themed day in Woodbridge. We watched a Science Museum Roadshow based on bubbles and blood and took a fascinating trip to a working Tide Mill. We all learned lots through the engaging hands on science encounters.
We continued to take part in local sports competitions with an emphasis on maximising participation. We were particular successful at the athletics competition held at Hartismere and brought home a glittering array of medals of all colours. Well done children!
Our JRSO Team did a fantastic job this year and we were delighted to discover during the presentation at Endeavour House in Ipswich that we had improved on our position from last year and earned a Silver Award. Congratulations to the team for all your hard work and dedication. This was something you achieved independently with very little adult input.
Sports Day was a great success and we treated to a perfect afternoon of fun following a gloomy and threatening morning. Well done to all that to took part and to all the families and friends who helped set up and tidy away.
Class 1 had been studying recreation over the Summer Term so it was fitting that they should experience a traditional seaside resort in person. We are spoiled for choice in this part of the world but we settled on a trip to the beautiful Southwold. Many thanks to all the parent volunteers that helped to make this trip successful.
To celebrate their hard work over their time at Occold, Year 6 went on trip to London. The trips was planned by the children who decided where we would visit. We also decided to use trains and tubes to gain first hand experience of planning a journey through the one of the biggest cities on the planet! See the post above for pictures.

To conclude the term our children donned their green tights to perform our summer play which this year was 'Robin and the Hoodies. All children acted, sang and danced to a very high standard and we were all very proud of your performances. Many thanks to all of your and your teachers for their fantastic direction.
