Occold's Book Festival 2025

We enjoyed a wonderful 3-day Book Festival!
Monday
On Monday, local poet Julie Hare came in to lead an assembly. She shared with us her debut collection of poems based on the themes of nature and conservation. Her newly released book 'Where the Forest Once Stood' is already in the Amazon charts! The children loved hearing her share her poems, as well as hearing all about the process of writing her own book. The children then spent the rest of the day creating their own poetry, inspired by Julie's, and Fox Class even had a go at some Book Speed Dating! At the end of the day, the children enjoyed some Biscuit and Book Tasting - yum!
Tuesday
On Tuesday, local storyteller Dave Tong joined us to share some of his amazing stories! We loved joining in with them. During the afternoon, we worked alongside our families and friends to make bookmarks. Some of these we kept in school for children to use and others we got to take home and share with our own family and friends.
Wednesday
On Wednesday, we were lucky enough to be joined by local author and illustrator Kate Read. She told us all about life creating picture books, and she shared some of her favourites with us. Each class then completed a craft workshop led by Kate. During the afternoon, we held our annual Book Mastermind competition in the village hall. Thank you to everyone who came along to support the children.
