A visit to The Hold - Suffolk Archives

Today, Fox Class visited The Hold (Suffolk Archives) to learn about life in Occold during the Victorian times. They looked at old maps, found names and jobs of people who once lived in Occold and even handled the school's log book from 1879 - 1903. Later, they had a behind-the-scenes tour of where the archives are stored. After lunch, the children visited the Crime and Punishment exhibition and also learnt about a poor young boy called Walter (born in Occold) who, at age 15, was sentenced to 14 days hard labour and 4 years in Kerrison's Reformatory School in Thorndon - all for stealing a pair of trousers and a coat on a cold Christmas Eve night!
