Book Festival 2024!

Monday

We kick-started this year's Book Festival with Toast and Book Tasting. Yum! We then spent the morning exploring Yuval Zommer's books and had a go at creating our own versions of the 'Big Book of..' After lunch, parents joined children in Fox Class to enjoy a Writer's Workshop hosted by Miss Jeni.

Tuesday

Local author and illustrator Kate Rolfe joined us to host illustration workshops. We enjoyed drawing characters from her new book: Wolf and Bear. Later on, we participated in Drop Cap art workshops, which were a great hit! Rabbit Class enjoyed spending time with their families in Miss Jeni's poetry workshop.

Wednesday

Wednesday saw us storytelling! We spent the morning using props to help us make up and tell fun, imaginative stories which we LOVED sharing with one another. Fox Class had a visit from Ms Adkins, Hartismere's school librarian, to share with us some of the amazing books in their school's library. Rabbit Class enjoyed an illustration masterclass inspired by Oliver Jeffers.

Thursday

We were joined virtually by award-winning illustrator Nick Sharratt! The children loved chatting to him and asking him questions about his brilliant work. The children had a go at drawing some of his famous characters. During the afternoon, we held our annual Book Mastermind competition, followed by a big book sale hosted by Diss Publishing. 

Friday

To end our week, the children enjoyed 'Story Discoveries'. Each member of staff prepared props and story clues which they slowly revealed to each group. The children had great fun guessing which story these props belonged to! At lunch, we enjoyed a Big Book Picnic on the school field with family and friends of the school.

We've had a wonderful week. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this year's Book Festival so special.
