Wisdom Booths Project
This autumn, Otter Class have started a project in collaboration with Hartismere Place Care Home in Eye.
Otter Class (and Year 5!) had a visit from some residents from Hartismere Place Care Home as part of the ‘Wisdom Booths’ project. This is a project which celebrates older people and encourages them to share their life stories and wealth of knowledge with others.
Year 3, 4 and 5 had the privilege of meeting three wonderful residents who shared their pearls of wisdom with us. These included their experiences of being an evacuee during World War II and their advice for becoming an artist. One quote we particularly loved was,
“My memories of school are exciting, it was a whole world of discovery. I remember that learning to read was hard labour but it was so worth it. Learning to read is the best gift you can receive.”
It is so exciting to be working with Hartismere Place Care Home again. We have previously participated in the Archie Project (pre-covid) which helped children to connect with older people and understand Dementia. It is brilliant to see different generations once again coming together and learning from each other.
